Southern Railway Removes Remains Of Revolutionary War Hero Without Family's Permission (Eminent Domain Needs To Preserve Heritage And History)

It's a shame when a person's remains have been removed from its resting place without the family's permisson. The Southern Railway came through Henry County and upon their arrival, the railway and the county went into long court battles getting Revolutionary War hero Ezekiel Cloud evicted from his resting place. Ezekiel Cloud was also a very rich person in the County. He had owned just about most of the land that is here in Henry County, as a reward from land lotteries for his heroic victories in the Revolutionary War. He even 0wned the land the where the Henry Court house now sits. Yet, when this Revolutionary hero died, his grandson Levi lived on it, and in court battles, Southern Railway and Henry County took the land Levi was living on. They then only removed one grave, that of Ezekiel Cloud, before building their railroad-the rest of the grave sites did not have headstones and Ezekiel's wife, children and other relatives are still there-without their headstones, unmoved . Why did it not go back to the families of his, since then much development has taking place in the county? I have spoken with Ezekiel Cloud's Great , Great, Great granddaughter. She told me they moved my grandfathers grave without the family's permission. They did not even try to contact us (the living relatives to ask permission to remove their relatives remains from the family graveyard which Southern Railway was building tracks on). The remains where removed by Henry County and Mc Donough City Officials who have died since then, and there were no Ministers present at time of removal nor where any Archeologist team there in an attempt to find and remove other grave sites where Ezekiel Cloud's relatives were buried. To me, too much eminent domain is being used for the purpose of progress and development, and family graveyards and other historical grounds are being taken over for commercial and government development-eminent domain . There needs to be more of our rich history preserved as for so long not enough preservation for Henry County history is not being protected by family's who are in poverty or dire financial straits.
